Tadpole 1
  • Mother and Baby, 6 months – 18 months
  • Mother and Toddler, 18 months – 24 months

TADPOLE SERIES

Tadpole 2
  • 30 months – 4 years capable of understanding instructions and able to move through the water without adult support.
Tadpole 3
  • 4 years +
  • 1) Perform breaststroke with correct technique with a buoyancy aid.
  • 2) 5 metres kicking legs on front and back with a buoyancy aid.

GOLDFISH SERIES

Goldfish 1
  • Swim 5 metres breaststroke unaided
  • Jump into the water from the poolside aided
Goldfish 2
  • Swim 10m breaststroke unaided
  • Jump into the water from the poolside
  • Front and back star float
Goldfish 3
  • Swim 15m breaststroke unaided
  • Back push off and glide
  • Mushroom float
  • 5 metres front paddle unaided
  • 5 metres kicking on back unaided

SEA HORSE SERIES

Sea Horse 1
  • Swim 20m breaststroke
  • Jump into water and touch the bottom at a depth of 1.2 metres and stay submerged for 3 seconds
  • 10 metres front paddle unaided
  • 10 metres kicking on back unaided
Sea Horse 2
  • Swim 30m breaststroke
  • Sitting dive
  • Pick up a sinking object from the pool floor at a depth of 1.2 metres
Sea Horse 3
  • Swim 40m breaststroke
  • Kneeling dive
  • 20 metres kicking on back unaided
  • 10 metres kicking on front demonstrating correct breathing action for frontcrawl

  • Swim 200 metres breaststroke (with face in the water demonstrating correct breathing action )

Octopus 2
  • Swim 250 metres breaststroke
  • Swim 25 metres full stroke front crawl
  • Mid pool turn

Octopus 3

DOLPHIN SERIES

Dolphin 1
  • Swim 100 metres frontcrawl with bilateral breathing
  • Swim 100 metres backstroke with a bent arm action

Dolphin 2

  • Swim 4x1 individual medley (IM)

Whale 1
  • Swim 50 metres butterfly in under 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Swim 50 metres backstroke in under 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Swim 50 metres breaststroke in under 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Swim 50 metres frontcrawl in under 1 minute 15 seconds
Whale 2
  • Swim 80 metres butterfly in under 3 minutes
  • Swim 100 metres backstroke in under 3 minutes
  • Swim 100 metres breaststroke in under 3 minutes
  • Swim 100 metres frontcrawl in under 2 minutes 40 seconds
Whale 3
  • Swim 80 metres buttefly in under 2 minutes 15 seconds
  • Swim 200 metres backstroke in under 5 minutes
  • Swim 200 metres breaststroke in under 5 minutes
  • Swim 200 metres frontcrawl in under 4 minutes 30 seconds

SHARK SERIES

Shark 1
  • Introduction to the use of the pace clock and understanding rest intervals
  • Swim continuously for 10 minutes using 2 different strokes and changing every length between alternating and simultaneous strokes
  • 4 x 50 metres frontcrawl with a 10-15 seconds rest between each 50 metres
Shark 2
  • Introduction to drills on all 4 strokes
  • Kick continuously for 3 minutes changing between alternating and simultaneous kick
  • 4 x 100 metres frontcrawl with a 10-15 seconds rest between each 50 metres
Shark 3
  • Relays
  • 4x4 individual medley (IM)
  • 200 metres torpedo kicking

CLUB SWIM

Without the commitment of having to train four or five times a week the Club Swim is designed to introduce a swimming club environment to children that have progressed through the above courses. Water polo and lifesaving will be taught along with speed and endurance training.

PERSONAL SURIVIVAL

To be performed in a long sleeved top and long trousers

Personal Survival 1
  • Compact jump
  • Straddle jump
  • Swim 100 metres with clothes on in under 4 minutes
  • Tread water for 1 minute
  • Make a buoyancy aid using trousers
  • Demonstrate the HEAT ESCAPE LESSENING POSITION (H.E.L.P)
  • Demonstrate the Huddle Position
  • Answer questions on water safety
  • Rescue someone from water without entering the water
  • Swim 100m in a life jacket
  • Demonstrate the correct procedure for throwing a rope to a casualty in the water

To be performed in a long sleeved top, long trousers, jumper and shoes

Personal Survival 2
  • Tread water for 3 minutes and then remove jumper and shoes
  • Swim 200 metres in trousers and top in under 8 minutes
  • Using a buoyancy aid show the HELP position and swim 200m with the help of the aid, then 25m lifesaving leg action and 25m side stroke
  • Demonstrate the HELP and huddle position and understand why they are important
  • Perform a non contact rescue
  • Organise a safe rescue without entering the water
